Why we refuse to host the installer

WPS Office is proprietary software. Redistributing the EXE, DMG, Deb, or APK from this domain would be the wrong kind of helpful. It also trains people to trust random files named WPS-Office-Setup-2026.exe. Wikipedia documents real-world update-channel abuse (ESET’s NSPX30 / Blackwood research). Your first defense is boring: only fetch builds from Kingsoft or the platform stores.

Website installer versus Microsoft Store

The Microsoft Store product 9NSGM705MQWC is a legitimate Kingsoft listing for Windows. Store apps update through Windows, which some schools prefer. The website installer is what most power users want: the full desktop suite on wps.com/download. If two Store tiles appear, read the publisher — it must be Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.

What free means on day one

You can write documents, build sheets, and design slides without paying. Ads are common on free skins. PDF conversion, OCR, extra templates, and cloud above about 1 GB are the usual upgrade nags. Walk through free vs Premium before you enter a card.

Checksums, SmartScreen, and antivirus

Windows SmartScreen may warn on a freshly signed installer. Confirm the publisher and that the URL still shows wps.com. Several crash reports are over-eager firewalls blocking the updater. Add WPS to an allowlist only after you verified the source.

First-run checklist

  1. Create a WPS account only if you want phone–PC sync.
  2. Set default save formats to DOCX / XLSX / PPTX.
  3. Turn on auto backup.
  4. Install proofing tools and fonts for every language you write before you blame compatibility.

Gizmodo’s directory (updated 10 August 2026) lists WPS as freeware from Kingsoft, Play Store 4.5 from about 5.98 million votes, App Store 4.8 from about 17.8 thousand votes, spanning Windows 7–11, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and a web app.

Hashes and “cracked Premium”

Kingsoft does not always publish a SHA-256 next to the EXE the way open-source projects do. That is annoying and still not a reason to fetch a “full version” from a forum. Cracks are malware delivery with extra steps. If a YouTube video promises a 2026 Pro keygen, close it. Safety notes.

Offline and metered connections

The installer may still want the network for templates and AI. Core Writer/Sheets/Slides work offline after install. On a metered phone hotspot, skip the template gallery until you are on Wi-Fi.
