What almost always stays free
- Create and edit DOCX, XLSX, PPTX.
- Open PDFs, basic comments.
- Local save, print, and everyday charts.
- A small WPS Cloud allowance (about 1 GB in Kingsoft’s public table).
What usually costs money
- Removing ads (GetApp and Software Advice reviewers mention this constantly).
- Advanced PDF edit, convert quotas, OCR.
- ~20 GB cloud and smoother multi-device roaming (up to nine devices on many Premium write-ups: 3 PCs + 6 mobiles is a figure that appears in reviews — verify in your account).
- Some template and font packs.
- Metered AI generations.
A two-week test
Days 1–3: work normally, tally nags. Days 4–10: deliberately convert, merge, and OCR PDFs you actually need. Days 11–14: decide. If you only hit a wall during one thesis weekend, pay for a month, export everything, and cancel. If PDF is your job, Premium is cheaper than Acrobat for many individuals.
Business plans
Seats, admin, and compliance are a different SKU. Do not buy Personal Premium as a pirate of a company license, and do not put patient or student data in a personal cloud you do not control.

A two-week test
Stay free. Count how many times a PDF, OCR, template, or cloud quota wall stops the actual job. Zero or one: stay free. Three times a week: the personal plan is usually cheaper than a second Acrobat and a stack of “free PDF websites.” Confirm the live price on wps.com — promotions move.
Ads
They fund the freeware. They are also why people search “WPS virus.” If ads appear outside the app after a mirror install, that is a different problem. Safety.
